I keep thinking to myself it’s coming soon. It’s going to be here quicker than I realise. I mean it seems not long ago since it was Christmas and New Year. So a couple of months (well less than now) is going to come rather quick.
By now I had planned to have seriously added some miles on Boardy (the nickname I’ve given my Boardman ADV – original I know). But for one reason or another I haven’t done it. I have added a few miles on the trainer and Zwift. Being on call the last two weeks has really tied me to home.
As of this evening though I’m no longer on call (until next weekend for a few hours), so I really hoped to get back out on 2-wheels this weekend. If you’re not European, you may not have heard that this weekend is going to be hot. Hot to the point that France has recorded their highest recorded temperature today.
Wifey has really been experimenting of late with some different ideas for Breakfast. We like new things rather than being stuck with the same things to eat week-in-week-out. We also have a requirement of being able to take breakfast to work to eat.
This leads to being creative while trying to keep eating healthy. Different flavours and different textures are all popping up right now. Just last week we had some Savoury Breakfast Muffins which were so versatile it’s unreal.
This week’s little creation is still muffin themed, but rather than the texture of an omelette, it’s really more of what a muffin is. I love these little muffins because they’re also ideal if heading out for some exercise early on. If I was to go out on the bike early doors, these are ideal for chucking down my neck before heading out.
50 miles still feels like a very long way on the bike. Way longer than I know I can manage at the moment. But that is slowly changing. Not only statistically, but I can feel the change.
I’m still only managing to get out cycling a couple of times a week. I’m pushing to make it 3 times a week, but recently it has been twice a week. Still, this last week I covered a respectable 33 miles. 12.8 miles (average 12.4mph) on Thursday evening and 20.4 miles (average 12.5mph) on Saturday.
Distance-wise, Thursday ride wasn’t anything special, I’ve covered that sort of distance a few times, but Saturday was special. Saturday marked the first time I’ve cycled past 20 miles in a single ride.
I have good news for a change. I say for a change, it’s been a while since I raved about losing weight. You have to go back to April 18th when I last blogged about losing weight. Yeah, that’s how bad I’ve been sucking at this weight loss gig.
But I say I have good news. This week I didn’t gain. Don’t get me wrong, I haven’t lost every gained in recent weeks. But I have to look back to March when I was last at Slimming World to get something like I got this week.
I have no tricks to a good week, other than being good. My #Challenge50 is approaching closer and closer each day and if I’m honest, I’m kind of excited and scared about the prospect of riding such a distance – unaided.
Most people will agree with me when I say that Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It’s the first thing you eat each day (most of the time anyway) and it breaks the fasting period your body has had during your sleep – hence breakfast.
A lot of people skip breakfast due to not having time to make something. Especially when you’re trying to be healthy and not have any prepacked food. Preparing good healthy meals can be time consuming.
But what if there was something that only takes 20-25 minutes? Or even better, can be made the evening before? Could this solve the old age issue of “I don’t have time to make anything”? Oh yes, it could.
I’m nearly two weeks into Challenge 50 now. Have I lost weight – no, have I covered some decent miles on the bike – not as much as I would have liked.
The weight thing has been a problem in recent weeks. My previous post, 1 Step Forward, 2 Steps Backwards, I explained how I was actually heavier at that point than I was when I started the change to WW. I have a membership with WW until September and there is no way of cancelling it early, though they have given me a free month due to my struggles.
I have enjoyed cooking again though. Every now and then I go through a period of wanting to cook, instead of just letting the wife sort dinner. One of the nicest meals I’ve cooked lately I had to blog about, the Chilli & Paprika Chicken Kebab with Pesto Pasta was just awesome! So much flavour in one dish and very filling. The picture of this even got a fair few likes on Instagram too.
